Top 4 Myths About Hemp Demystified
There’s no denying the hype around CBD oil. Maybe you heard about it from a friend at the gym or saw a high profile athlete/celebrity endorsing it online. If you’re considering trying CBD for the first time, it’s important to separate fact from fiction. Because of the history surrounding hemp it’s easy for things to become exaggerated and confusing. While we all enjoy a good conspiracy theory like whether or not “Bigfoot” is real or “did we really land on the Moon?”, when it comes to taking a health supplement like CBD, the truth is the only thing you should be concerned about.
Hemp And Marijuana Are The Same Plants: MYTH
This is probably the biggest misconception people have. While hemp and marijuana are different plants they actually come from the same plant species Cannabis sativa, hence, the confusion. Over thousands of years, our ancestors learned the many beneficial characteristics of hemp and marijuana and grew the plant to meet specific needs. For example, hemp became an industrial crop while marijuana was used for its psychoactive properties.
CBD Oil Gets You High: MYTH
Think about someone you’re related to that couldn’t be more different than you. That’s hemp and marijuana. Even though they share genes and certain chemical compound properties, the big distinction is that hemp is superior in the phytocannabinoid cannabidiol, while marijuana is greater in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The cannabidiol in hemp is most recognized for its wellness properties; it’s the THC in marijuana that gets you high.
CBD Oil Is Only Used For Serious Conditions Like Epilepsy: MYTH
While CBD can have an impact on more serious conditions like epilepsy, there is a much bigger health and wellness component you might not be aware of yet. CBD oil has been shown to provide incredible support to the Endocannabinoid system, which is vital for the overall balance of the immune system, sleep, digestive tract, cognitive function, and the nervous system.
Hemp Was Used To Clean The Soil In Chernobyl: TRUE
I bet you were thinking this was going to be a myth but it is in fact true! Hemp plants combined with new phytoremediation technology were used to clean contaminated soil after the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl. This is because hemp is a scavenger plant so it absorbs all the elements in the soil around it, therefore cleaning and replenishing it. The outcome of using hemp at Chernobyl was so good that Japan was seriously considering using it after their disaster in Fukushima. Unfortunately, the difficulty in obtaining hemp licenses at the time prohibited them from using the plant’s amazing natural properties.
(*CONSUMER TIP: We think it’s important to mention that for the same reasons hemp is so amazing at cleaning the soil and pulling out heavy metals, that consumers make sure they’re buying quality CBD products that are responsibly grown with great agricultural care.)
